Spent three days trying to get the packer side knotter working it wont cut the poly twine even swapped the knife from the good side to no availe thought I might forge a bespoke knife. Does anyone know what the problem might be and on this subject which small square baler had the best all round capibility hope it gets sunny again:lolk. Hate been beaten and have to understand the knotter then may get a different baler. Welgar do seem popular though. Having looked at the damn knotter for days I think only one piece of twine is cut and the other does not get cut and pulls apart the knot and the knot stays on the billhook. Tried putting washers in and swopped knife blades but to no avail. One thing I did notice was that some of the twine got stuck inbetween the two discs and caused some buildup in the first knotch but not where the needle brings up the final thread of twine. No time now to explain what happened JV. Just a few more things to try. Are you using a 'hay' plastic twine some of the plastic string is to thin for some of the older balers. Trying sisal may cure the problem which as has already been suggested.The mod to the knotters fitted a 3 disc twine holder instead of orignal 2 disc. Further to that is the tension on the strings the same on both coming out of the string box, losening this could help. Get everything clean. If you still have problems stop the tractor and trip the knotter and wind it over by hand. The needles should be entering the chamber just as the ram comes over the top to protect them, if you have an assistant it is easier. Continue turning and look for any differences between the 2 sides of the knotter. Go very slowly when you get to the actual tying process look very closely stopping frequently to check differences. International B47 Baler Operators ManualInternational B47 Baler ManualThe needles should just brush the side of the knotter frame and be in similar positions, are the sweep arms grabbing both strings to pull the string onto the bill hook, if you go slowly you will see and differences. Some times the sweep arms sieze [They are seperate to the knotters right in the bottom operated by pushrods] It could be just a thin string problem.The plunger and stationery knife should be sharp these can affect knotters.
